Claude, the artificial intelligence model from Anthropic, became the fastest-growing AI traffic source globally, increasing its referral traffic by 386 percent from January to April, according to new data from SE Ranking.
Despite its rapid expansion, Claude still accounts for a small fraction of overall AI-referred traffic, though its substantial growth indicates shifting dynamics in AI platform adoption and user referral patterns.
SE Ranking, a search engine optimization and analytics platform, reported that Claude’s share of traffic within its dataset grew from 0.0029 percent in January to 0.0141 percent in April.
The most significant single-month increase for Claude occurred in March, a period attributed to heightened public attention following policy statements issued by Anthropic, SE Ranking data showed.
Collectively, AI platforms generated 0.33 percent of all traffic as of April, an increase from 0.1976 percent recorded a year earlier, SE Ranking reported.
ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, continues to dominate AI-referred traffic, accounting for 78.23 percent. Other major contributors include Perplexity at 9.33 percent, Google’s Gemini at 6.85 percent, and Microsoft’s Copilot at 3.57 percent, according to the analysis.
Claude currently holds 1.40 percent of the total AI-referred traffic, placing it behind its larger competitors.
The United States has been a primary driver of Claude’s growth, with its traffic share in the region reaching 0.0186 percent in April. This growth in the U.S. market is approximately 10 months ahead of trends observed in other regions, including the European Union and the United Kingdom, SE Ranking reported.
SE Ranking’s analysis focuses on direct referral traffic and does not incorporate activity from agent frameworks like OpenClaw, an open-source agent that operates on Claude models. Agent activity typically does not register as direct clicks, a spokesperson for SE Ranking said.
The data from SE Ranking utilizes information from Google Analytics and Similarweb, providing insights into website traffic and user behavior across various platforms.
Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI researchers, has positioned Claude as a competitor in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence sector, attracting investments from major technology firms and government entities like the Pentagon.
The company has also partnered with organizations such as Ramp and GitHub to integrate its AI capabilities into enterprise solutions.
