Microsoft Clarity introduced new features, including an AI Scrape-to-Referral Ratio card, on Monday to help website publishers quantify the impact of AI scraping activity on their referral traffic.
The global update provides a quantifiable method for evaluating the trade-off between content extraction by AI tools and the actual user traffic directed back to websites, moving beyond qualitative assessments.
The new ratio card compares the volume of AI scraping with the number of referred visits generated by AI tools, according to Microsoft.
An example cited by the company illustrated an AI tool generating 41 referred visits after approximately 6,000 scrapes, indicating a high scrape-to-referral ratio for a single returned visit.
Microsoft stated that there is no universal acceptable ratio for this metric, as the optimal threshold depends on a website’s specific business model and objectives.
The Bot Analytics report within Clarity’s AI Visibility Dashboard has also been enhanced, offering operator rankings and safeguards to ensure comprehensive mapped domain coverage.
Users can now access session recordings filtered directly by AI source, allowing for a more detailed analysis of traffic quality and a comparison of different AI sources, Microsoft reported.
These metrics are accessible through the Bot Analytics section of the AI Visibility Dashboard, providing publishers with tools to assess the effectiveness and return on investment from AI interactions.
