U.S. content creators must prioritize experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) to succeed in AI search, particularly for health and Your Money or Your Life (YMYL) topics, as AI Overviews become central to information retrieval.

The shift in search behavior underscores a need for trustworthy and authoritative content to rank effectively in AI search results, according to industry analysts.

AI Overviews now appear in approximately 89 percent of healthcare queries, with 40 million people daily asking health questions to AI, OpenAI reported in 2026.

Google’s YMYL content categories, which include health and safety, finance, news, government, civics, and society, are subject to rigorous evaluation by human quality raters, BrightEdge stated.

In 2025, Google updated its YMYL framework, expanding the category and adding specific criteria for AI Overviews, clarifying that AI-generated content lacking human review or original value should receive the lowest ratings.

Three in five U.S. adults utilized AI for health-related questions within the past three months, often outside standard office hours, seeking personalized recommendations, deciphering medical jargon, and validating health decisions.

To achieve strong performance in AI search, content must adhere to E-E-A-T principles, be presented in simple, direct, and answer-first language, and maintain consistent factual and topical accuracy, BrightEdge reported.

This emphasis on clarity and authority is important as AI models increasingly summarize and synthesize information directly within search results, reducing the need for users to click through to external websites.

Organizations producing health and YMYL content are advised to ensure their material is meticulously vetted by qualified experts and clearly attributes sources to build trust with both human users and AI algorithms.
