Reddit significantly increased its share of top three search rankings across various niches following Google’s May core update, while YouTube‘s organic visibility declined, according to new data.
The platform’s overall top three search share rose to 10.24 percent after the update, marking an increase from 8.56 percent in March and 9.19 percent in December, indicating a shift in search engine results pages (SERPs).
SE Ranking, a search engine optimization software company, reported that Reddit‘s most substantial gains occurred in what it termed ‘experience-led’ niches.
These categories included Pets, which saw a 3.18 percentage point increase, Education with a 3.03 percentage point rise, and Sports and Exercise, which gained 3.02 percentage points.
Conversely, Reddit’s presence in ‘Your Money Your Life’ (YMYL) niches, which encompass sensitive topics like finance and health, showed minimal change.
Healthcare, for instance, gained only 0.40 percentage points, according to data collected in New York.
Meanwhile, YouTube experienced a drop in its organic search visibility, with its top three organic share falling to 2.14 percent after May, down from 2.50 percent in March.
Amsive, a marketing agency, suggested that YouTube’s results are increasingly appearing within video SERP features rather than traditional organic listings.
The May core update also highlighted low recovery rates for websites that had lost rankings in previous updates.
Only 32.20 percent of domains that lost top 10 positions after the March update managed to recover them after the May update, SE Ranking reported.
This data suggests significant volatility in search rankings and a challenging environment for sites attempting to regain lost visibility after major algorithm changes.
