PARIS — A new white paper co-authored by French search specialists Maxime Doki-Thonon and Sylvain Peyronnet outlines how traditional search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, particularly netlinking, remain critical for visibility within generative artificial intelligence (AI) search environments.
The paper, titled ‘SEO + GEO: Dominating Search in the Era of Generative AI,’ details the technical mechanics of large language models (LLMs) and proposes methods for SEO and geographic optimization (GEO) to interact with and influence these advanced systems.
Maxime Doki-Thonon, CEO of RocketLinks, and Sylvain Peyronnet, a search specialist and CEO of Babbar, explained that SEO fundamentals are important for maintaining relevance as search evolves, emphasizing the continued importance of netlinking for online visibility, according to the white paper.
The document provides a look at the anatomy of AI searches, including intent extraction and real-time web search processes, and discusses advanced ranking algorithms such as RRF and MMR, which are central to how LLMs process and present information.
Key topics covered in the white paper include the design of ideal mentions, encompassing explicit mentions, semantic textual similarity (STS), and the E-E-A-T framework (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness), which are presented as important for influencing LLM outputs.
The authors also explore the synergy between netlinking and GEO, offering concrete actions for digital marketing campaigns designed to help businesses adapt their strategies and build a competitive advantage in the changing search ecosystem, the white paper stated.
The publication aims to provide practical guidance for professionals seeking to understand and leverage the interplay between established SEO practices and the capabilities of generative AI in search.
