Google Discover has become the primary traffic driver for Minecraft.fr, significantly outpacing Google Search in growth over a 16-month period, according to a recent analysis.
The shift indicates a changing dynamic in content discovery, with Google Discover now accounting for more than 1 million annual visits to the French gaming news site, a substantial increase from its prior marginal contribution.
Between January-April 2025 and January-April 2026, Google Search traffic to Minecraft.fr saw a 38 percent decrease, while Google Discover traffic surged by 67 percent, Sylvain Deauré of Abondance reported.
Google Discover’s share of Minecraft.fr’s monthly SEO traffic tripled from 10 percent in January 2025 to 33 percent in January 2026, Deauré noted.
Over the 16-month analysis period, Google Discover contributed 14 percent of the site’s total SEO traffic, despite its negligible impact in earlier reporting periods.
Several articles published on Minecraft.fr generated more than 50,000 clicks directly from Google Discover, demonstrating the platform’s capacity to drive high-volume engagement.
The typical Google Discover page reaches its traffic peak within 24 hours of publication, accounting for 37 percent of its total Discover traffic, according to the analysis.
Traffic from Google Discover then rapidly declines, with most of the engagement disappearing within one week of the content’s initial publication.
The findings, detailed by Abondance, suggest that content creators and publishers, particularly those using platforms like WordPress, may need to adapt their strategies to leverage Google Discover’s short-term, high-impact traffic generation.
