Figma integrated artificial intelligence agents directly into its platform via its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, enabling frictionless design and coding workflows for users globally, the company announced.
This new capability establishes a bidirectional bridge between design and code, allowing AI agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex to directly read from and write into Figma files, transforming design-to-code processes.
The integration utilizes downloadable text files called “skills,” which provide AI agents with specific instructions to perform tasks within Figma. These skills allow agents to automate mechanical design and coding functions, freeing designers to concentrate on strategic decisions and accelerate iteration cycles.
Figma outlined three primary workflows facilitated by this integration, including importing coded prototypes directly into Figma, synchronizing design systems between codebases and the design canvas, and exploring new design directions directly from the canvas.
One key skill, ‘/figma-use’, empowers AI agents to create and modify Figma files. This skill leverages existing project components, variables, and styles, ensuring consistency and adherence to established design systems.
The company stated this development aims to streamline the synchronization of design and development, ultimately leading to faster product iteration and more cohesive outcomes.
