Contentful content strategists recently advised on the appropriate integration of artificial intelligence into content workflows, stressing that AI should not generate original viewpoints or expert analysis.
The guidance emphasizes maintaining unique value in content by understanding AI’s limitations, particularly its tendency to produce generic drafts that merely recombine existing information from other ranking pages.
John Graham, a content strategist at Contentful, highlighted that the true value of content lies in offering readers novel insights not readily available elsewhere. He noted that AI excels at tasks such as research, analyzing search engine results pages (SERPs), creating outlines, and identifying content gaps.
Conversely, Graham stated that AI is unsuitable for establishing a distinct point of view, generating original data, or developing expert angles that provide unique value to an audience.
Another Contentful strategist, Gabriel Dillon, concurred, explaining that AI’s reliance on existing data inherently limits its capacity for true originality. He suggested that content creators must provide the unique perspective and innovative thought that distinguishes valuable content.
Contentful plans to host a webinar detailing how to identify AI-generated drafts that primarily restate existing information. The session will also cover methods for analyzing reader engagement to ensure content resonates uniquely with its target audience, according to the company.
The organization’s experts said that while AI tools can enhance efficiency in preliminary stages, human input remains critical for infusing content with the originality and specific expertise that artificial intelligence cannot replicate.
