Bing Webmaster Tools launched a global preview Tuesday of four new AI performance report features designed to provide content publishers with deeper insights into their visibility within AI-generated responses.
The new features, named Intents, Topics, Citation Share, and Compare, are integrated into the existing AI performance report and aim to help publishers understand how their content is utilized in AI ecosystems, according to Microsoft Bing officials.
Intents categorizes AI grounding queries into several classifications, including Informational, Commercial, Navigational, Learn and Solve, Research, Creation, and Local. This classification helps publishers discern the specific context in which their content is being cited by AI models, said Microsoft’s Krishna Madhavan, Meenaz Merchant, Saral Nigam, and Trishna Shah in a joint statement.
Topics groups grounding queries into broader thematic clusters, such as “Solar Energy” for related inquiries. This provides publishers with a conceptual overview of their content’s AI visibility, moving beyond traditional keyword analysis.
Citation Share measures a website’s percentage of citations relative to all sources referenced for a particular grounding query. This metric offers an indication of a site’s overall presence and influence within the AI information environment.
The Compare feature allows publishers to overlay previous reporting periods onto current data views. This functionality enables visualization of citation evolution over time, facilitating correlation with content updates, seasonal trends, or broader changes within the AI ecosystem.
Microsoft stated the new tools would assist publishers in optimizing their content strategies for improved performance in AI-driven search environments.
