OpenAI will launch an advertising program for its ChatGPT platform in 31 European markets starting August 24, 2026, targeting users of its free and ‘Go’ subscription tiers.
The company said the strategic expansion aims to monetize the artificial intelligence chatbot by integrating advertisements into user interactions, particularly leveraging its role in complex decision-making processes.
Initial advertising availability will be facilitated through OpenAI‘s dedicated Ads Solutions team, alongside partner agencies and technology partners.
A self-service option via an Ads Manager platform is expected to become available later in the same quarter.
Users subscribed to the Plus, Pro and Enterprise plans will continue to experience ChatGPT without advertisements, according to OpenAI.
OpenAI reported that its advertising system has undergone significant development since its pilot phase in the United States in February.
Enhancements to the platform include the introduction of bidding models such as Cost Per Mille (CPM), Cost Per Click (CPC) and optimized Cost Per Click (oCPC).
The updated system also features expanded geographical targeting capabilities and options for creating custom audiences.
Advertisers will also have access to performance tracking tools, including the OpenAI Pixel and a Conversions API, to monitor campaign effectiveness.
Markets included in the rollout are France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Austria, among others.
