Reddit’s visibility in Google search results increased significantly while overall search clicks declined in the United States, reshaping digital marketing strategies following Google’s May Core Update.

Reddit saw a 54 percent increase in its presence within the top three search results for 13,872 keywords after Google’s May Core Update, according to an analysis by SE Ranking. This growth was particularly strong in experience-led niches, with the platform securing an 18 percent share of top three positions in categories such as pets.

Concurrently, a substantial majority of Google searches ended without a click between January and April, SparkToro data reported. The analysis, based on Similarweb‘s clickstream panel, indicated that 68 percent of searches generated no clicks, while only 23.2 percent led to clicks on the open web.

Rand Fishkin, co-founder of SparkToro, has consistently highlighted the trend of zero-click searches, suggesting that Google increasingly answers queries directly within its search results pages, reducing the need for users to visit external websites.

Google also updated its Search Central documentation, advising businesses to compare third-party SEO advice against its official guidelines. The company encouraged users to file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding fraudulent SEO services.

Roger Montti, an SEO analyst, noted that Google’s updated guidance underscores the importance of adhering to official recommendations to avoid penalties and ensure long-term search visibility.

In local SEO developments, Google Business Profile (GBP) data can now be linked to Google Analytics 4 (GA4), integrating seven key metrics into reports, including calls, directions, and bookings. This integration provides businesses with a more comprehensive view of their local search performance.

Darren Shaw, founder of Whitespark, a local SEO tool provider, stated that connecting GBP data to GA4 offers valuable insights into how customers interact with local business listings, enabling more informed marketing decisions.

Furthermore, GBP data will also connect with the Gemini app, allowing business owners to reply to reviews and edit their profiles directly through the artificial intelligence assistant.

Andre Alpar, founder of Alpar Ventures, an SEO consulting firm, said that these integrations simplify management for small businesses, making it easier to maintain an active and optimized Google Business Profile.

The collective shifts emphasize a dynamic period for search engine optimization, requiring businesses to adapt strategies to Google’s evolving algorithms and user behavior.
