Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence application surpassed one billion monthly users globally, driven significantly by increased voice interaction capabilities, the company announced Monday.
The rapid expansion highlights the growing adoption of multimodal AI, with Google reporting that 63 percent of Gemini app users now engage with the platform through voice commands.
Josh Woodward, a Google product lead, stated that the app’s ability to generate more than 150 million images daily also contributed to its user base growth. More than 100 million active users access Gemini via iOS devices, according to Google.
Google continues to expand Gemini’s voice input capabilities, with plans to roll out support for more than 60 regional dialects. This move aims to make the AI more accessible to a broader international audience.
While Gemini offers task automation features, supporting more than 40 popular applications, these functionalities currently face geographic and age restrictions. Task automation is limited to users in the United States and South Korea, on specific devices, and only to individuals aged 18 and older.
The search giant, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has been integrating AI across its product portfolio. Industry analysts, including those from SE Ranking, have noted the increasing competition in the AI sector.
Google’s continued investment in Gemini and its multimodal features, such as image generation and advanced voice recognition, positions it as a key player in the AI sector, competing with other major technology firms.
