Google launched new Generative AI performance reports in Search Console on June 3, 2026, providing website owners with insights into how their content appears within AI Overviews and AI Mode.
The global rollout offers visibility into how content performs within Google‘s generative AI features, allowing site owners to compare organic and AI visibility to diagnose potential performance issues.
The new Search report specifically displays impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, detailing the associated URLs and offering breakdowns by country, device, and date, Google announced.
These reports are being introduced initially to a select group of website owners to gather feedback and facilitate testing.
An AI impression is defined as any instance where a link to a website is presented to a user within a generative AI feature, the company stated.
Google emphasized that AI impressions are not directly equivalent to traditional search impressions due to inherent differences in user experience and the methods used for counting.
Currently, the reports include only impression data and do not provide metrics such as clicks, queries, click-through rate (CTR), average position, citation placement, passage used, or conversion data.
In addition to the reporting tools, Google is also experimenting with a new control within Search Console that would allow site owners to either include or exclude their content from appearing in generative AI features.
This new functionality aims to offer webmasters greater control over their content’s presence within the evolving search environment.
