Google is integrating AI image generation directly into its AI Overviews feature and redesigning the Google Images homepage as part of its 25th-anniversary initiatives, the company announced.

These updates signify Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance search capabilities with artificial intelligence and refine its guidelines for search engine optimization (SEO) professionals globally.

The redesigned Google Images homepage will transform into a personalized, browseable gallery, updating in real-time and tailored to individual user interests, Google stated.

In related developments, Google’s Search Advocate John Mueller provided insights on several SEO best practices, including the impact of hidden links and the duration of A/B tests.

Mueller advised against overthinking plans to hide a homepage link to prioritize another, suggesting such a change would likely have no measurable impact on search rankings.

Separately, Google clarified that content-based canonical fixes, which address duplicate content issues, can take up to two weeks to be reflected accurately in Search results.

Regarding long-term A/B tests, Mueller’s response to a query about tests lasting six to 12 months indicated that Google might use one version of content for indexing purposes.

He also suggested that varying content across A/B test versions does not inherently incur a penalty, a point that SEO expert Roger Montti of SEJ noted appears to contradict some of Google’s previously published guidance on the matter.

These clarifications and updates underscore Google’s continuous evolution in search technology and its communication with the SEO community regarding algorithm behavior and best practices.
