Content from Gmail significantly increased brand visibility within Google‘s AI Mode for users who opted into Personal Intelligence features, according to a recent report by iPullRank.
The study found that brands introduced through accounts connected to Google’s Personal Intelligence saw a 46-percentage-point rise in mentions within AI Mode responses, highlighting a strong influence of personal data on search results.
Mentions of tested brands in connected accounts surged from 23.9 percent to 66.8 percent, the report stated. Top-three placements for these brands also increased from 4.5 percent to 24.9 percent.
Gmail content demonstrated the most substantial impact among personal data sources. Brands seeded via email appeared in 53.6 percent of AI Mode responses, significantly higher than the 10.5 percent observed for content from Google Photos.
Garrett Sussman, an analyst at iPullRank, said consumer product categories, such as coffee machines and hoodies, were more susceptible to this influence. Categories requiring higher trust, like banks or SEO agencies, showed less impact.
The research also clarified that personal context did not entirely replace traditional web sources. AI Mode continued to base many recommendations in web content, with other brands’ websites accounting for approximately 49 percent of the sources cited.
iPullRank conducted its study over 17 days, utilizing three distinct Google accounts. The research examined eight product and service categories, including running shoes, banking services, and streaming platforms, to assess the breadth of the influence.
Google’s AI Mode, which uses Personal Intelligence, aims to provide more personalized search experiences. Users can opt in to allow Google to use their personal data, such as emails and photos, to tailor results.
Brands seeking to enhance their presence in personalized AI search environments should consider the implications of user-generated content and personal data interactions, the findings suggested.
