Artificial intelligence is best positioned to support search engine optimization (SEO) professionals by interpreting complex data and streamlining workflows, rather than fully automating or replacing human decision-making.
The global consensus among experts suggests AI’s primary role in SEO is to augment human capabilities, making technical information more actionable and digestible for human strategists.
Language models, a key component of AI, are particularly effective at tasks such as summarizing information, creating concise explanations, or drafting project management tickets from technical data, an industry observer said.
However, deterministic SEO checks, such as identifying 404 errors or verifying canonical tags, do not require large language models (LLMs).
One Chrome extension developed to assist SEOs combines traditional SEO checks with browser data, deterministic analysis, and language models to provide comprehensive support.
Keeping a human involved in the SEO process allows for valuable disagreement with AI outputs, which can expose weaknesses in AI models or highlight ambiguities in data and terminology, enhancing the overall accuracy and effectiveness of SEO strategies.
