PARIS — French e-commerce revenue reached €196.4 billion in 2025, a 7 percent increase from the previous year, driven by significant growth in services and a rebound in product sales, according to the Fevad.
The sector’s expansion was underpinned by widespread adoption of artificial intelligence and a notable shift towards multi-screen shopping behaviors among consumers.
A total of 3.2 billion online transactions were recorded across France in 2025, marking an 11 percent year-on-year increase, the French e-commerce federation Fevad reported. This growth occurred as 42.2 million French individuals, representing 72.9 percent of those over 15, made online purchases within the last 12 months.
Generative AI solutions have been adopted by 94 percent of merchants, while nearly one in three online shoppers now integrate AI into their purchasing journey, Fevad stated.
Marketplaces accounted for 32 percent of the total volume of online product sales, indicating their growing influence in the digital retail sector.
The average value of an online shopping cart decreased to €62, suggesting that consumers are making more frequent but price-conscious purchases, according to Fevad.
Mobile device usage for online shopping saw a substantial increase, rising by 7 percentage points in one year to reach 69 percent of users.
Card payments remained the dominant method, used in 92 percent of transactions. However, digital wallets saw significant growth, used by 57 percent of shoppers, and split payment options were utilized by 21 percent.
Out-of-home delivery solutions, such as relay points, now represent 46 percent of usage for online orders, with 76 percent of users opting for these methods.
Marc Lolivier, managing director of Fevad, highlighted the dynamic nature of the market, noting that the sector continues to innovate and adapt to consumer demands.
Additionally, more than 4 in 10 online shoppers, or 41.4 percent, purchased at least one second-hand product online during the year, reflecting evolving consumer preferences for sustainable and value-driven options.
