Public Facebook Groups became the second most frequent source for Google‘s Discussions and forums module, surpassing Quora and trailing only Reddit, according to an Ahrefs analysis released Tuesday.
The analysis, conducted by Glen Allsopp and Xibeijia Guan of Ahrefs, utilized more than 500 million search results to determine the prevalence of various domains within Google’s discussion module.
Facebook Groups appeared in 38.3 percent of search results where the module was displayed, securing its position as the second most common site.
Reddit maintained its dominant lead, appearing in 87.8 percent of U.S. results that featured the Discussions and Forums section.
Facebook took Quora’s spot as the second-most common domain in January and has since maintained its position, the report stated.
Globally, Quora now ranks third, appearing in 32 percent of results, with all other sites registering below 10 percent.
The Discussions and Forums module itself appeared in 11.7 percent of U.S. search results, according to Ahrefs.
Facebook’s presence in Ahrefs’ chart for this module began from zero in late 2024, marking a rapid ascent in its visibility within Google’s search results.
The findings suggest that content within public Facebook Groups is increasingly being indexed and surfaced by Google, offering new avenues for online discussions to gain search engine visibility.
