Anthropic introduced a new ‘Record a Skill‘ feature for its Claude Cowork AI platform on Tuesday, allowing users to teach the artificial intelligence tasks via screen recording, prompting discussions about job displacement.
The new functionality, available to subscribers of paid plans including Pro, Max, and Team, enables Claude to create and subsequently perform tasks based on a recorded walkthrough of a user completing the action.
The announcement generated varied reactions across social media platforms. Some users expressed apprehension regarding potential job losses as AI capabilities expand into complex task automation.
Others reported encountering account limits, which prevented them from immediately testing the new feature, according to posts on X, formerly Twitter, including one from user @alfredversa.
OpenAI, a competitor in the artificial intelligence sector, has offered a comparable feature called ‘Record and Replay‘ since June 18. However, OpenAI‘s tool is exclusively available to Apple Mac users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Anthropic’s latest offering highlights the ongoing development in AI automation, where systems are increasingly capable of replicating human-performed tasks through observation and learning.
Industry analysts suggested that while these tools can enhance productivity, they also necessitate a broader societal conversation about reskilling workforces and adapting to a changing job market.
