Liquid Web’s recent rebranding and consolidation of several popular WordPress plugin brands under Nexcess and ‘Liquid Web by Nexcess’ sparked significant user confusion and backlash regarding licensing and product access across the global online community.
The move, which integrated brands like Kadence, GiveWP, The Events Calendar, and LearnDash into new software lineups, left many customers, particularly those with lifetime deals, struggling with login issues, missing invoices, and uncertainty about product availability.
Previously, these plugins were often associated with the StellarWP brand, with some maintaining standalone websites, but StellarWP appeared to disappear without explicit notice, according to user reports.
Liquid Web stated that all existing customers, including lifetime subscribers, would retain their current features, plans, pricing, tools, and license keys, confirming they were being “grandfathered in.”
Jack Kitterhing, Strategic Product Leader at Nexcess, acknowledged the widespread login issues and missing invoices, attributing them to a “massive migration” process.
Kitterhing confirmed that lifetime customers would retain their purchases despite the extensive changes.
The controversy was exacerbated by years of inconsistent branding changes between Liquid Web and Nexcess, which Liquid Web acquired in 2019, leading to a lack of clarity for users.
Some users reported that specific products, such as ShopKit and Kadence Conversions, seemed to vanish from their accounts or were no longer easily accessible.
The shift also impacted other associated brands like SolidWP, Iconic, Restrict Content Pro, and MemberDash, which were also part of the broader Liquid Web ecosystem.
WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg has previously emphasized the importance of clear communication and stable branding within the open-source community.
Liquid Web has not yet provided a comprehensive public statement detailing the full scope of the migration or a timeline for resolving all reported issues.
The company’s support channels have been inundated with inquiries from confused customers seeking clarification on their licenses and product access.
