Google’s Search Console AI reports and an associated opt-out control became globally available on August 31, providing new data on generative AI impressions to web professionals.
The worldwide rollout includes metrics for AI Overview, AI Mode, and other generative AI interactions, offering insights into how AI features affect search visibility, according to Google.
John Mueller, a Google Search Advocate, clarified that it can take several months for websites to show ranking recovery after a broad algorithm update or the submission of a disavow file.
Mueller also noted that his personal test sites indicated SEO tools primarily request markdown, suggesting that AI bots do not commonly utilize it for crawling purposes.
Regarding sitemap best practices, Mueller advised against using daily ?v=timestamp parameters on sitemap URLs, stating it signals constant URL changes to Google.
Kevork Sahagian of Lantern Sol emphasized that many SEO “shortcuts” often attempt to address issues that fundamental SEO principles already resolve.
