Google’s AI Mode has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users globally within its first year, signaling a significant evolution in online search behavior, the company reported.
The milestone indicates a shift towards more conversational, complex, and multimodal queries, fundamentally altering how users interact with information and content.
Queries within AI Mode have more than doubled each quarter since its introduction, demonstrating rapid adoption, according to Google.
The average search conducted in AI Mode is three times longer than a traditional search query, reflecting users’ increasing preference for detailed interactions.
Follow-up queries in the United States have risen by over 40 percent monthly, further illustrating a trend towards extended, iterative search sessions.
More than one in six AI Mode searches now incorporate multimodal elements, utilizing voice, images, or video inputs, Google stated.
Image-based searches alone have increased by over 40 percent month-over-month, highlighting a growing reliance on visual information retrieval.
Top search topics in AI Mode include creative content, media, education, fashion, food, health, technology, travel, productivity, and development.
Google noted significant growth in queries related to brainstorming and planning, suggesting users are leveraging AI Mode for more complex problem-solving and ideation tasks.
The company said in a statement that the data underscores a move beyond simple keyword searches, with users now exploring, deciding, learning, creating, and shopping through more interactive methods.
This shift suggests a new era for information retrieval, where artificial intelligence plays a central role in facilitating deeper and more varied user engagement with online content.
