YouTube’s creative ecosystem contributed more than $60 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product last year and supported over 540,000 full-time equivalent jobs, according to recent reports.
Marketers need to shift strategies from traditional search engine optimization to creator partnerships because YouTube videos are frequently cited as primary answers in Google‘s AI Overviews, said Jill Carroll, a former journalist for CNN.com and MSNBC.com.
Carroll, who also reported for Yahoo News and The Huffington Post, said this shift represented a nearly two-decade gap in marketing approaches that needed to be addressed.
Neal Mohan, YouTube’s CEO, stated that the company’s creative community is a significant economic engine, a sentiment echoed by Alexandra Veitch, YouTube’s Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy.
A study by Oxford Economics reported that 76 percent of small- and medium-sized businesses utilizing a YouTube channel indicated the platform helped expand their customer base.
The increasing prominence of YouTube content in AI Overviews makes it a crucial channel for achieving search visibility, according to industry observers.
Marketers should prioritize identifying relevant and influential creators for collaborations, integrating these partnerships into existing SEO, content, and social media workflows, Carroll advised.
Measuring the success of creator partnerships should extend beyond simple view counts to include downstream effects such as website traffic, AI citations, and conversions, Carroll told The Christian Science Monitor.
Google, the parent company of YouTube, has been integrating AI-generated summaries into its search results, drawing information from various sources including YouTube videos.
