WordPress released version 7.0.1, a maintenance update addressing 31 bugs, including PHP 8.5 compatibility and a fix for a security-related function, the organization announced Friday.
The minor update focuses on stability and resolving various issues identified since the release of WordPress 7.0, according to a statement from WordPress.
Among the fixes is an improvement to PHP 8.5 compatibility, specifically for a Core WordPress function that manages image attachment URLs and dimensions. This update ensures smoother operation for users running the platform on newer PHP environments.
Another significant correction addresses a bug within the wp_kses() function. This function is critical for filtering HTML and CSS content to prevent the injection of malicious code into WordPress sites.
The specific bug in wp_kses(), introduced during the 7.0 development cycle, had the potential to generate an invalid style=) attribute, according to WordPress developers. The fix rectifies this potential vulnerability.
WordPress stated that the 7.0.1 release does not contain any new security fixes beyond the adjustment to wp_kses(). It also does not introduce new developer APIs, performance improvements, or fundamental changes to how WordPress operates.
The update is considered a stable release, primarily aimed at enhancing the overall stability and reliability of the content management system through minor bug resolutions.
Users are encouraged to update their installations to version 7.0.1 to benefit from the improved compatibility and bug fixes.
