OpenAI launched “dots” on September 29, 2026, introducing autonomous AI agents powered by its GPT-6 Astra model designed for continuous operation and integration across diverse platforms.

These agents are equipped with a dedicated cloud computer and browser, enabling them to work around the clock and maintain context across various communication channels, including ChatGPT, SMS, Slack, Teams, and voice calls, according to OpenAI.

Dots can connect to more than 4,000 applications through OpenAI’s existing plugin ecosystem. The company stated that these agents possess their own identity, specific access permissions, and the capability to write and test code.

Users can grant explicit authorization for dots to access their devices. OpenAI highlighted several potential use cases for the new technology, including software development, product launches, scientific research, enterprise sales, and content production.

For sensitive stages of these processes, human validation remains a requirement, OpenAI said.

The initial dot will be included for Pro and Business Premium subscribers in eligible markets. Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare clients will receive beta access to the new autonomous agents.

OpenAI emphasized that the agents are designed to provide persistent, context-aware assistance, marking a significant step toward more integrated and self-sufficient artificial intelligence applications.
