MOUNTAIN VIEW, April 30 — Google updated its official search engine optimization (SEO) guidance, issuing new warnings about third-party tools and integrating advice for optimizing content for artificial intelligence experiences.
The technology giant released a new document, “Google Search’s guidance on using third-party SEO tools, services, and advice,” clarifying that it does not endorse any external SEO tools or services.
Google emphasized that third-party tools do not possess access to its internal ranking data and therefore cannot guarantee performance in search results. The company cautioned site owners against providers who claim official approval or privileged insights into Google’s algorithms.
The updated “Do you need an SEO?” guide now advises website owners to grant read-only access to Google Search Console for audits. It also recommends vigilance against providers who guarantee top rankings, stating such claims are often unrealistic.
According to the new documentation, site owners should verify all SEO recommendations against official Google documentation to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
The guidance now includes specific advice on optimizing for AI experiences (AEO/GEO), referencing a dedicated help page on the topic. This marks an integration of AI optimization strategies into Google’s core SEO recommendations.
