MOUNTAIN VIEW — Google deployed a new global Spam Update in September 2026, targeting abusive practices in search results just one month after a similar update.
The technology giant stated the update is a standard measure to combat spam across all languages and is expected to take up to two weeks for full deployment.
This latest update followed a previous Spam Update launched in August 2026, underscoring Google’s ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and relevance of its search engine.
Google said the September 2026 Spam Update specifically targets various web spam practices, including automatically generated content, low-quality content, duplicate content, and deceptive redirects.
Unlike broader Core Updates, which re-evaluate overall content quality, spam updates focus solely on identifying and mitigating manipulative tactics used by some websites.
Website owners whose sites are affected by a spam update should consult Google’s official spam guidelines, according to the company.
Google advised that necessary corrections should be made to comply with its policies; however, changes related to link spam may not result in the restoration of lost search rankings.
