Job site operators globally reported Tuesday that Google has not responded to requests for Indexing API approval, despite the company’s recommendation to use the API for job postings.
Many operators have been awaiting approval for months, some since October 2025, to use Google’s Indexing API beyond its default testing quota, according to industry consultants.
Google’s official documentation suggests using the Indexing API for job posting URLs because it prompts Googlebot to crawl pages more quickly than traditional sitemaps, which can be important for time-sensitive listings.
SEO consultant Nick LeRoy and job board consultant Alexander Chukovski both hypothesized that Google might not have approved any submissions throughout 2026.
The public documentation for Google’s Indexing API does not specify a typical timeframe for approval nor does it offer a method for checking the status of a request, operators noted.
John Mueller, a Google Search Advocate, previously acknowledged that the Indexing API had been “inundated by bloggers,” suggesting Google might be exercising more caution in its review process. However, he did not elaborate on the specifics of this review.
The lack of response creates a significant barrier for job boards like SEOJobs.com and PPCJobs.com, which rely on rapid indexing to ensure job seekers see the most current opportunities.
Without expanded API access, these platforms must depend on sitemaps, which can result in delays for new job postings to appear in Google Search results, potentially impacting their visibility and utility.
The issue effectively renders Google’s recommended tool for job postings inaccessible to many job sites, despite its potential benefits for timely content indexing.
