Google issued new guidance asserting its definitive authority over search engine optimization (SEO) practices, including those for artificial intelligence (AI) search, while explicitly distancing itself from third-party tools and their claims.
The global digital giant declared itself the singular source of objective truth for SEO and AI SEO methodologies, encompassing both Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
The guidance, published on Google Search Central, warned against third-party SEO tools and services that claim Google approval or endorsement, stating that such assertions are unfounded.
Google clarified that external SEO tools do not possess access to its proprietary internal ranking data, rendering their performance predictions as non-guarantees.
The company recommended that users rely on its own first-party tool, Google Search Console, for direct information and data pertaining to Google Search.
According to the new guidance, Google is the ultimate arbiter of SEO advice, providing the definitive word on how content should be optimized for its search engine.
This move underscores Google’s ongoing effort to control the narrative around search optimization and to combat misinformation regarding its algorithms and ranking factors.
The company has consistently advised webmasters and content creators to focus on producing high-quality, user-centric content rather than attempting to manipulate search rankings through technical loopholes.
Industry observers noted that Google’s latest guidance reinforces its position as the gatekeeper of search visibility, particularly as AI-driven search experiences become more prevalent.
Google’s Search Console provides webmasters with tools and data to monitor their site’s performance in Google Search, identify and fix indexing issues, and view search traffic data.
