Global users are fundamentally changing search behavior through artificial intelligence, driving a revolution in query complexity and user expectations, Google analysts reported Tuesday.
This shift represents a revolutionary transformation in how individuals interact with search engines, according to Google’s Martin Splitt and Nikola Todorovic, who said users are submitting longer, more detailed and increasingly complex questions.
AI has historically operated in the background of organic search, but its recent prominence is enabling more sophisticated multimodal queries, Splitt and Todorovic stated.
The longtail nature of AI Search queries is managed internally by Google’s AI, which breaks down complex prompts into simpler, more manageable “fan-out queries” for processing, the analysts explained.
Despite the rise of AI-driven interactions, classic search methods and organic results maintain their importance, as AI Search relies on their retrieval mechanisms to process intricate user prompts, according to Google.
Liz Reid, another Google executive, previously highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI more deeply into its core search products, emphasizing user experience improvements.
The company said this new wave of user behavior demonstrates a deeper understanding among individuals of what modern search capabilities can offer, moving beyond traditional keyword-based queries.
This transformation underscores a significant change in user expectations, pushing search engines to adapt to more conversational and context-rich inputs, Google indicated.
