MOUNTAIN VIEW, United States — Google announced Tuesday it is integrating artificial intelligence image generation into its AI Overviews and redesigning the Google Images homepage as part of its 25th anniversary initiatives.

The updates aim to enhance search capabilities by allowing users to create custom images directly within search results and offering a more personalized image discovery experience, according to the company.

Users will be able to generate images from text prompts within AI Overviews, utilizing Google’s Nano Banana model. This feature is scheduled to roll out in English over the coming weeks in regions that support image creation in AI Mode.

Concurrently, Google is introducing a new browseable homepage for Google Images. This redesigned page will feature a real-time updating gallery tailored to individual user interests when they are signed in, Google said.

Users can also save ideas to collections, which will appear as tabs positioned above the main gallery on the new Google Images homepage.

The updated Google Images homepage is set to debut over the coming weeks on desktop in the U.S. in English.

Brad Kellet, senior engineering director for Search, announced these changes in a company blog post. He stated that the enhancements reflect Google’s ongoing efforts to evolve its search offerings.
