Google’s Gemini 3.5 Pro artificial intelligence model, initially slated for a June release, has been delayed by several months due to persistent issues with its coding capabilities, Bloomberg News reported.

The setback for Google‘s flagship AI model stems from disappointing results in recent training data updates designed to enhance its coding skills, raising concerns among current and former employees about the company’s competitive standing against rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic.

Bloomberg, citing individuals familiar with the matter, reported that the ongoing delays have caused frustration within Google as the company struggles to keep pace in the rapidly developing AI sector.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledged in May that the company was lagging in “agentic coding,” a specific area of AI development.

The Gemini 3.5 Pro model, which Google announced in May, is currently undergoing testing with various partners, according to Bloomberg’s report by Julia Love and Davey Alba.

Google has not yet announced a revised release date for Gemini 3.5 Pro.

The delay highlights the challenges faced by Google’s DeepMind unit as it works to refine its large language models amid intense competition.
