Global AI search platforms are increasingly citing Reddit for multi-location brand recommendations, prompting businesses to recalibrate their search engine optimization strategies, industry analysts said.
One in five off-page citations in AI search answers now originates from Reddit, a 30 percent year-over-year increase, underscoring the platform’s rising influence on digital visibility.
AI models, including those powering ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, prioritize human context found on platforms like Reddit, which boasts 500 million weekly active users, over traditional brand websites, which account for only 15 percent of AI search sources, said Amanda Kusner, an SEO specialist at Uberall.
Google has begun integrating Reddit threads directly into business profiles, a move that significantly impacts local search visibility for companies with multiple locations, Uberall reported.
Peter Wischmann, an analyst with Uberall, emphasized that inconsistent location data across various digital platforms can cause AI systems to bypass a business entirely or cite incorrect information, hindering accurate recommendations.
Reddit’s community guidelines reward authentic participation and penalize overt promotional content, influencing how brands should engage with the platform to gain visibility, Kusner noted.
Businesses seeking to improve their AI search rankings must ensure consistent and accurate location data across all digital touchpoints, including Google, Apple, Yelp, and Foursquare, according to Uberall.
Engaging authentically with Reddit communities by providing helpful, non-promotional content can build brand trust and increase the likelihood of citations by AI search engines, Wischmann stated.
Monitoring brand mentions on Reddit and responding appropriately to user inquiries or reviews can also enhance a company’s digital footprint and influence AI-driven recommendations, Kusner added.
The shift highlights a broader trend where AI prioritizes user-generated content and community discussions for recommendations, moving beyond traditional corporate messaging.
