AMSTERDAM – Yoast SEO for Shopify introduced a new llms.txt feature Tuesday to help artificial intelligence tools accurately describe e-commerce products and store information.
The feature creates a dedicated file that directs AI models, including ChatGPT and Google Gemini, to the most relevant content within a Shopify store. This aims to prevent inaccurate product descriptions stemming from incomplete or outdated data, according to Yoast.
Merchants can opt for an automatic mode, which allows Yoast to generate and update the llms.txt file weekly based on Shopify store data, the company said. Alternatively, a manual mode offers users complete control over content selection.
In automatic mode, the system highlights the 10 most-sold products, up to five largest collections, store policies, the homepage, recent blog posts, recently updated pages and cornerstone content. This selection prioritizes key information for AI tools.
Yoast stated that the new feature is opt-in and designed for ease of use, requiring no technical knowledge for setup. The company added that the file updates weekly and automatically removes deleted products to maintain accuracy.
The introduction of llms.txt seeks to give Shopify merchants greater control over how AI tools interpret and present their product catalogs to consumers. This guidance aims to ensure AI-generated content reflects current and accurate store information.
