WP Engine and BigCommerce partnered to introduce Commerce Connect, a solution designed to help WordPress e-commerce stores scale operations, the companies announced Tuesday.
The collaboration aims to address challenges faced by high-growth, mid-market brands with established WordPress websites that need to support larger product catalogs, higher traffic volumes and more complex operations as their businesses expand.
Commerce Connect allows businesses to integrate BigCommerce’s enterprise-grade commerce platform with their existing WordPress front-end, according to a joint statement.
This approach enables brands to modernize their commerce capabilities without requiring a complete overhaul or replacement of their WordPress site, which often represents significant investments in content, design and search engine optimization.
Keith Fafel, vice president of product at WP Engine, emphasized that the new offering provides flexibility for scaling e-commerce sites within the WordPress ecosystem rather than replacing the platform itself.
The partnership targets companies that have already invested heavily in their WordPress presence and are seeking to enhance their commerce functionality to meet growing demands.
The companies stated that the solution is particularly beneficial for businesses that need to manage extensive product inventories and handle increased transaction volumes.
BigCommerce, known for its enterprise commerce platform, brings its back-end capabilities, while WP Engine provides its expertise in managed WordPress hosting and digital experience management.
The initiative was announced globally, aiming to serve a broad market of WordPress users looking for advanced e-commerce solutions.
