Global growth leaders are experiencing significant pressure to deliver results amidst evolving buyer behavior, flat budgets, and a notable gap between artificial intelligence (AI) productivity gains and actual revenue generation.

Seventy-three percent of Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) consider growth expectations high or overly ambitious, even as marketing budgets have remained flat at 7.8 percent of revenue since 2022, according to Spencer Stuart.

This intense environment contributes to an average tenure of 4.1 years for growth leaders, one of the shortest among C-suite executives, Spencer Stuart reported.

Despite widespread AI adoption, companies are struggling to translate efficiency into sales. Deloitte found that 66 percent of companies reported productivity gains from AI, but only 20 percent saw corresponding revenue increases, indicating a disconnect between automation and financial outcomes.

Buyer behavior in business-to-business (B2B) markets has also fundamentally shifted, according to recent research. Ninety-five percent of winning vendors are on a buyer’s day-one shortlist, and 94 percent of buying groups rank this list before contacting any vendor, 6sense reported.

Forrester found that 94 percent of buyers now integrate AI into their purchasing processes, necessitating a re-evaluation of traditional marketing and sales strategies.

A contradictory trend in buyer preferences emerged from Gartner research, which found that 67 percent of buyers desire a rep-free experience, yet 69 percent still want a sales representative to confirm information provided by AI.

Inconsistent information across internal teams is a primary reason buyers switch vendors or suppliers, according to McKinsey. This highlights the need for cohesive messaging and data presentation throughout the sales cycle.
