Google announced the global integration of WeatherNext 3, an advanced AI weather model, across its product ecosystem on Tuesday, signaling a strategic shift toward task-based search experiences.

The deployment of WeatherNext 3, which Google described as its most sophisticated global-scale AI weather model, aims to transform how users interact with its services by providing more precise and actionable information.

WeatherNext 3 offers up to 50 percent greater accuracy than previous models, according to Google. The new model provides hourly updates, more detailed local forecasts, real-time satellite data and improved rain prediction capabilities.

The technology is being rolled out globally across key Google platforms, including Google Search, Gemini, Maps, Google Maps Platform, Earth Engine and Cloud services.

This widespread integration forms part of Google’s broader strategy to evolve its Search and AI offerings into a task-based surface, moving beyond the traditional display of 10 blue links for information retrieval.

The company aims to help users make decisions and accomplish complex tasks directly within its platforms, rather than merely providing links to external information.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has previously emphasized this strategic direction, envisioning a future where search functions as an “agent manager” for intricate user tasks.

The company stated that the enhanced weather forecasting capabilities would enable users to plan activities more effectively, from daily commutes to outdoor events, by offering more reliable and granular data.

The move underscores Google’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence to create more intuitive and proactive user experiences across its diverse product portfolio.

Analysts suggest that this integration highlights the ongoing competition among major technology firms to develop AI models that can provide comprehensive, real-time assistance for a wide range of user needs.
