Google completed its global September 2026 spam update on October 8, 2026, after a nearly 14-day rollout that impacted website visibility across all languages.

The update, which began on September 24, 2026, took 13 days and 16 hours to fully deploy, aligning closely with Google‘s estimated two-week maximum for such rollouts.

Early data from analytics firm Diib, based on a sample of 32,569 websites, indicated a median decrease in unpaid Google search visits from 34 percent to 31 percent during the update’s implementation.

Diib reported that 10 percent of the tracked websites experienced a significant drop of 50 percent or more in their share of unpaid Google search visits.

Separately, SEOmonitor observed sudden fluctuations in rank trackers starting September 26. SEOmonitor attributed these changes to incomplete and incorrect results from Google’s automated searches, suggesting they did not necessarily reflect actual ranking shifts for end-users.

Google stated that its spam updates aim to enhance its automated systems for detecting and mitigating spam content. However, the company did not disclose specific details regarding the mechanisms or targets of this particular September 2026 update.
