Google introduced new ‘platform properties’ in Search Console on Tuesday, allowing content creators and marketers to track Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube content performance within Google Search results globally.
This update addresses a long-standing request from the search engine optimization (SEO) and content creation communities, providing previously inaccessible data for content hosted on these third-party social media platforms.
The new functionality enhances three key sections within Google Search Console: the Performance Report, the Insights Report, and the Achievements section, according to Google.
Verification for these new platform properties mirrors the process for classic website properties, requiring users to add them via the Search Console property selector.
The rollout of this feature is gradual, meaning not all Google Search Console accounts will see the functionality immediately, Google reported.
Barry Schwartz, writing for Search Engine Roundtable, noted that the update provides analytics that were previously unavailable without direct developer access to each social platform’s data.
The Performance Report now displays metrics such as clicks, impressions, and other engagement data for social media content appearing in Google Search, complete with filtering options for analysis.
Users can use the Insights Report to gain an overview of traffic trends and identify top-performing posts from their social media accounts that are driving search visibility.
Additionally, the Achievements section will track progress and milestones, such as reaching specific click thresholds, providing creators with a way to monitor their content’s growth in Google Search.
This integration aims to offer a more comprehensive view of how social media content contributes to a brand’s or individual’s overall search presence.
