Google launched its August 2026 spam update globally across all languages Tuesday, potentially causing significant fluctuations in search engine rankings for websites worldwide.
The update, which began rolling out at 9:27 a.m. Pacific on August 18, 2026, marks the third such spam-focused revision released by the technology giant this year.
Google officially announced the deployment of the update through its Search Status Dashboard, indicating that the complete rollout process is expected to span several days.
Previous spam updates from Google in 2026 occurred in March and June, according to reports from Search Engine Journal.
The company has not introduced any new spam policies with this latest update; all previously established policies remain in full effect.
The June 2026 update clarified that Google’s existing spam policies specifically extend to the manipulation of generative artificial intelligence responses within its Search platform.
This includes content generated for features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google stated at the time.
The ongoing rollout suggests that webmasters and search engine optimization (SEO) professionals should monitor their site performance closely in the coming days as the update propagates across Google’s global index.
