MOUNTAIN VIEW, United States – Google announced that artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing user search behavior, necessitating a strategic shift for advertisers in their 2027 content and campaign management.
The company’s “Ads Decoded” episode highlighted that AI-powered search modes are driving more conversational and exploratory queries, which will require advertisers to re-evaluate their engagement strategies.
Search queries in Google’s AI Mode are three times longer than traditional searches, indicating a user preference for more detailed and nuanced interactions, according to Google representatives Ginny Marvin and Shivani Mohan.
One in six AI Mode searches in the U.S. now incorporates multimodal inputs, such as voice and images, allowing users to convey personal nuances for complex decisions, Mohan stated.
Users continue to seek human perspectives, lived experiences, and authoritative content from the open web, including forums, podcasts, and videos, even when utilizing AI summaries, Google reported.
Advertisers must adjust their strategies for 2027 by addressing customer needs earlier in the discovery funnel, providing comprehensive information that integrates human insights, according to Google.
Discovery and evaluation phases can now occur within the same conversational search, meaning advertisers need to consider more than just initial search phrases, Marvin noted.
Md Jihad and Ana Trujillo Martin, also involved in Google’s insights, emphasized the importance of adapting to these user journeys.
The company advised that content strategies should evolve to meet these longer, more exploratory queries and the demand for authentic human perspectives.
This shift requires advertisers to move beyond simple keyword targeting and develop richer content that can satisfy complex, multi-faceted user inquiries.
