Google has integrated developing-topic link carousels into its AI Mode, providing prominent placement for timely articles within AI-generated search responses, the company announced.
This enhancement aims to connect users of AI Search with original coverage and diverse perspectives on trending subjects, potentially increasing visibility and clicks for news sources.
Robby Stein, vice president of Product for Google Search, confirmed the feature is now live in AI Mode. These carousels present a horizontal row of article links, each including an image, headline, source and publication date.
The developing-topic carousel was initially introduced in May as part of a broader update focused on integrating AI Search with original reporting.
Google indicated that these carousels create a larger visual link placement compared to the smaller citations typically found in AI summaries.
The company continues to test various link designs within its AI experiences, according to a statement. Google has not yet confirmed plans to expand this specific design to a wider range of query types beyond developing topics.
