Shopify delivered strong Core Web Vitals performance in real-world user experiences despite having significantly heavier median page weights compared to competitors, a recent analysis of content management platforms found.

The findings, reported by HTTP Archive using data from the Chrome UX Report, challenge the conventional wisdom that lighter pages and high Lighthouse audit scores are direct predictors of superior real-world web performance.

Duda led the platforms examined, with 85 percent of its pages achieving good Core Web Vitals scores and a median page weight of 1.78 megabytes, according to the report.

Wix followed with 80 percent good Core Web Vitals scores, maintaining a median page weight of 2.55 megabytes.

Shopify secured the third position, with 79 percent of its pages meeting good Core Web Vitals thresholds, despite registering the heaviest median page weight among the top performers at 3.77 megabytes.

The report indicated that Shopify’s unexpected success in Core Web Vitals performance stemmed from its stable rendering, optimized layouts, and quick interactivity.

Google’s aggressive resource optimization strategies, including content delivery networks and optimized hosting, were also cited as key contributors to Shopify’s real-world performance, according to the analysis.

Astro, which had the lightest median page weight at 1.65 megabytes, achieved 67 percent good Core Web Vitals scores.

While Astro’s performance reinforced the general benefit of lightweight pages, its results suggested page weight is not the sole determinant of real-world user experience metrics.

The study, which also included platforms like Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress, concluded that a direct correlation between page weight, Lighthouse lab audit scores, and actual Core Web Vitals performance is not consistently observed across all platforms.
