PARIS — Business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce development projects typically incur significantly higher costs than their business-to-consumer (B2C) counterparts due to inherent operational complexities and mandatory system integrations, according to recent analysis from France.

These projects, critical for digital transformation, can range from several thousand euros for basic implementations to more than 150,000 euros for highly customized platforms with extensive product catalogs and deep enterprise resource planning (ERP) integration.

Key factors driving project expenses include the volume of client accounts, the size and complexity of the product catalog, the depth of ERP integration required, and the degree of workflow automation desired, industry observers reported.

Modular, B2B-native solutions, such as BaseCart by Vigicorp, can reduce development timelines compared to projects built entirely from scratch, a Vigicorp spokesperson said.

However, companies often overlook several cost components, including data migration from legacy systems, comprehensive team training, and integration with existing management tools like customer relationship management (CRM) and product information management (PIM) systems.

Project types vary widely in their estimated budget ranges. An adapted off-the-shelf solution might cost around 20,000 euros, while modular pre-built platforms typically fall between 20,000 and 60,000 euros.

Fully custom B2B e-commerce projects, designed for unique business requirements, generally start at 45,000 euros but frequently surpass 100,000 euros due to extensive development and integration needs, the analysis indicated.

Vigicorp emphasized comprehensive budgeting that accounts for both initial development and these often-hidden expenses to ensure successful project implementation.
