Websites globally must re-architect their design to prioritize task completion for visitors arriving via AI Mode or risk significant conversion losses, industry reports indicated.
This shift is important as AI Mode users, who are pre-qualified and ready to act, demonstrate significantly higher conversion rates compared to traditional web traffic, according to recent data.
Google reported 1 billion monthly active AI Mode users as of May 20, 2026, with their queries tripling the length of traditional search engine inputs, signaling a deeper intent.
Planning-related queries within AI Mode grew 80 percent faster than overall AI Mode queries over the past six months, suggesting users are completing their research and planning before visiting a site.
Adobe’s second-quarter 2026 AI traffic report found that retail traffic referred by AI converts 42 percent higher than non-AI traffic, underscoring the value of these visitors.
Current website architectures are typically built for information delivery, assuming visitors require persuasion before taking action, a model that is redundant for AI Mode users, experts said.
To optimize for this new user behavior, websites should place task-completion elements, such as booking forms or pricing information, at the top of landing pages.
Further emphasizing this need, Chrome’s auto-browse feature, set to launch in late June 2026, will deploy autonomous agents to complete tasks directly on websites.
