Yoast SEO released version 28.7 on Tuesday, introducing expanded artificial intelligence capabilities for updating search engine optimization data and performing its annual code cleanup for developers.
The update allows AI tools to manage and update critical SEO and social media metadata, enhancing automated content optimization for users of the popular WordPress plugin.
Yoast SEO 28.7 specifically enables AI tools to update SEO titles, meta descriptions, Open Graph titles and descriptions, and X (formerly Twitter) titles and descriptions, according to a statement from Yoast.
The new version expands the existing ‘yoast-seo/update-post-seo-data’ ability to support six additional fields, facilitating more comprehensive AI-driven SEO management.
Yoast emphasized that the focus keyphrase will remain read-only, and access to these new AI abilities will continue to adhere to native WordPress capability checks.
In addition to the AI enhancements, the release incorporates Yoast’s yearly cleanup of deprecated code, removing elements that were marked for deprecation in Yoast SEO 26.1 or earlier versions.
This cleanup includes the removal of the WPSEO_Frontend class and several specific actions no longer supported by the plugin.
Yoast advised developers who maintain themes or plugins that integrate with Yoast SEO to review the cleanup section of the release notes for potential impacts on their existing codebases.
The organization stated that this routine code maintenance helps streamline the plugin’s architecture and improve long-term stability.
