.Org, .Store Domains Outperform .Com in E-commerce Revenue

.Org and .store domain extensions surpassed .com in e-commerce revenue and site sessions between 2025 and 2026, according to a global analysis by web development platform Wix.

Websites using the .org extension were 34 percent more likely to generate e-commerce revenue and received 3 percent more site sessions compared to .com sites, Wix reported.

.Store domains earned 10 percent more revenue than .com sites and double the revenue of .shop or .net sites, Wix said.

Registrations for .store, .online, and .shop domains collectively doubled within the initial five months of 2026, signaling increasing popularity for these specialized extensions.

The technology sector also saw significant growth in alternative domains. Registrations for .ai domains increased 20 percent from January to May 2026, making it the tenth most popular extension in Wix’s dataset.

.Io domain registrations experienced a 32-fold surge in May 2026, reflecting its growing adoption by technology companies.

Despite the rise of these alternatives, .com remains the dominant extension in 10 countries, including the United States, Brazil, India, Japan, and Mexico, according to the analysis.

However, local domain extensions surpassed .com registrations in Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, indicating regional preferences for country-specific top-level domains.

Wix’s analysis covered domain names from 2025 to 2026, providing a recent snapshot of the digital identity market.

The company stated that the performance metrics suggest growing consumer trust and business willingness to utilize extensions beyond the traditional .com.
