Google implemented a new commercial search layout in the European Economic Area (EEA) and reinstated view counts for Business Profile posts globally, while ChatGPT increasingly relies on product feeds for shopping recommendations.

The updated commercial search results in the EEA now feature distinct units for comparison websites and direct suppliers, Google said.

Google reintroduced view counts for Business Profile posts worldwide, covering activity from the last 18 months and aggregating views from both Google Search and Google Maps.

Data from Profound indicated a significant rise in ChatGPT’s use of feed-integrated sources for shopping recommendations, increasing from 8.26 percent to 61.54 percent in July.

John Mueller of Google stated that older, low-value programmatic pages could continue to negatively influence a website’s evaluation by Google’s systems, even after subsequent site updates.

This observation highlights persistent challenges for site recovery following algorithmic penalties, according to Mueller.

A UK news website experienced a 98 percent decline in Google News search visibility after migrating from a .co.uk to a .com domain, a decrease that lasted for four months, NewzDash reported.

This case illustrates the importance of careful planning and execution during domain migrations to avoid substantial drops in search performance.
