Google launched new Search profiles for U.S. content creators with significant online followings Tuesday, aiming to centralize their digital presence and increase content visibility within Google Discover.
These customizable profiles allow eligible creators to aggregate articles, videos and social media posts from various platforms onto a single page, according to Google.
Creators can personalize their profiles with an avatar, a biographical description, a link to their website and connections to their social and video accounts. They also have the option to pin their most recent work for prominent display, the company said.
Eligibility for a Search profile requires a minimum of 100,000 followers on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram or X. Creators on TikTok must have at least 300,000 followers to qualify. Additionally, all applicants must be at least 18 years old.
The profiles are accessible on mobile devices through Search knowledge panels, Discover cards and direct URLs. Each profile includes a ‘Follow on Google’ button, designed to enhance the creator’s content visibility within the Google Discover feed.
Rene Ritchie, a prominent technology creator, was among the first to showcase the new feature, highlighting its potential for streamlined content presentation.
Google stated that claiming a Search profile may initiate or improve an existing Google Knowledge Panel, which provides summary information about a person or entity. However, the company clarified that the profiles do not directly influence Search ranking, with visibility benefits primarily concentrated within Discover.
The feature’s initial rollout is limited to the U.S., but Google indicated plans for future global expansion and the introduction of additional capabilities.
