Google has reinstated post view counts for Business Profile updates globally, allowing businesses to monitor content performance directly within their dashboards, the company announced.
The return of the “Google Posts Reporting” feature, discontinued in February 2023, provides businesses with insights into how their posts perform across Google Search and Maps.
The reporting functionality displays view counts on each post card within the Business Profile dashboard, covering all post types including updates, offers, and events.
Data for posts published over the past 18 months is now accessible, Google stated in its September Small Business Bulletin.
The move follows observations by industry practitioners last month who reported seeing the feature in testing phases.
Google had retired post view and click metrics during its migration to the Business Profile Performance API last year, without specifying a replacement in its developer documentation.
The current bulletin does not define what constitutes a “post view,” leaving open whether it represents unique individuals or every instance of a post’s appearance.
Lisa Landsman, a Google representative, confirmed the global rollout, noting the company’s commitment to providing valuable tools for small businesses.
The feature is not yet available through the Business Profile API, according to the company.
Businesses can now directly track the reach of their promotional content, helping them refine their local marketing strategies based on engagement metrics.
